Introduce yourself here!

Postby Amber » Mon Oct 26, 2009 8:18 am

Since I accidentally deleted all the old forum posts when I upgraded it, I figured I would start a new introductions thread. We've had a lot of members come and go, and this would be a good opportunity to update us on who you are and what you're up to lately!

I'll start. My name is Amber. I'm 27 and I live in Norfolk with my husband Jimmy and our two Boston terriers Jasper and Kyla. I knit, sew, cook, do house-decorating and renovating things, and I am easing back into drawing and painting. I am also starting to explore art journaling and collage. For a living I manage websites and do some graphic design on the side (which I have a degree in from ODU). I also really like hiking, camping, stuff having to do with local/sustainable living and I am a failed but hopeful gardener. Haha.

You can get to my Flickr photoshere. I also post on twitter.

Here's a picture of the latest thing I'm working on - a pair of flip top mittens. The pattern is called Snapdragons by Ysolda Teague.

So - tell us about yourself, your art & craft. As much or as little as you want!

ok, i'll go next. :)

my name is vicki, and i'm new to 7 cities crafters. i'm so glad i found you guys! i've been needing some crafty encouragement and inspiration!

i'm 25 and live in chesapeake, where i'm a barn manager and also work part time at starbucks. i've got a 5 year old australian cattle dog, daisy (who's crazy but one of the smartest dogs i've ever known), and 7 chickens (hooray for fresh eggs!). i graduated from vcu in '06 with a degree in business (small business management and entrepreneurship). i'm a little craft ADD...i do some screenprinting, sewing, cardmaking, photography, and lots of other random things when inspiration strikes. (i'm trying to learn to focus a little more :). i'm also a little addicted to thrifting, so now i sell the sweet vintage stuff i find on my etsy shop (www.dreamfly.etsy.com), where i'll also be adding more handmade stuff, too.

Hi, my name is Michelle and am addicted to crafting of all sorts. I don't consider myself an "artist", I just love to create! From photography to jewlery and everything else in between. Love me some handmade goods! I have an Etsy shop called GymboHannah. I'm into collecting, creating unique personal imagery collage, ephemera, altered art, upcycled creations, jewelry, and shopping online craft sites for supplies and ideas. I am a supply junkie, so I am adding some super cool sites you can copy & paste the web address if you like. (I always love a good crafty site.) Hello, my name is Terry. This Sunday will be my first time at the monthly meeting. I'm excited to meet new people. I currently work on jewelry designs and just learned how to crochet. I just finished a scarf. I am exploring and enhancing my skills on other crafts such as knitting, dying fabrics, designing jewelry, painting and drawing, gardening and blogging. I got into designing jewelry after searching for something to do in my spare time. I love the design and crafting world and want to learn EVERYTHING. It even inspired me to get back into web design. Look forward to meeting you all!

Hello, "my name is Inigo Montoya." Just kidding, I couldn't resist!

Kelly G! -- I've been a member of 7 Cities for about a year now and unfortunately have not had the opportunity to attend one of the meetings...I will soon, I promise. I'm an ADD artist, and we all know what that means...multiple projects everywhere. I started the art group "Who Arted?" (www.whoarted.ning.com) and I am an art/craft show junkie! I also sell on Etsy (www.kellygstudio.etsy.com), but currently my shop is quite bare do to the holiday show season. This is a great group of artists, and I look forward to being more involved in 2010!!

Enjoy!

Hi! My name is Susan and I'm new here. Looks like a very nice place!
I make handcrafted jewelry and I'm looking for Christmas/Holiday craft fairs/shows/bazaars, etc.

I have a couple of questions:
1. I don't have a license so how do you know which shows you can do and which you can't? I do most of my selling via the internet and have only just begun doing a few shows this time of year.

2. Question on the First Fridays in Olde Towne Portsmouth. You have this listed as an event but the description of it says it's for Old Town Merchants. Is there a place where we can sell our items?

If you'd like to see some of the items I've made, take a look at http://www.craftedfromtheheart.com and/or http://heartcrafted.jimdo.com

thanks! Susan

I'll post about myself :)

My name is Ashley Pickin, and I'm a 24 year old student/business owner in Hampton. I've been in an on again/off again relationship with the 7 City Crafters since it was the 7City Craft Mafia.. and then the Norfolk Craft Mafia.. and now it's most recent incarnation.

I do a little bit of everything when it comes to crafting. I like to paint, draw, cut, glue, sew, tape, weave, and rivet things together... I mostly make pottery, but lately I've been obsessed with making things out of balloons. Jewelry is my favorite thing to make the balloons into, but I'm slowly working my way up to large collages and functional pieces like pot holders.

Looking forward to meeting all of these new folks.

Here's a pic of balloon stuff that I made for the Crafty Bastards show a couple of years ago:

Been meaning to do this for a few months.........ack!

I'm another jewelry designer (Crystal.Spirits Handcrafted Jewelry), self-taught in my third year and a member of Who Arted. My jewelry is made with sterling silver, semi-precious gemstones, lamp work beads, vintage beads and crystals and lots of Swarovski crystals.

Haven't been very active with getting into my studio lately as for the past two months have been dealing with somewhat of a major overhaul of our house due to 40 gallons of water flowing into our two story house from broken piping........ugh! The deployment gremlins have taken over permanent residence in our house and it's not been fun.

I live in VB with our two pupsters Rio, a Samoyed and Zeus who is a Cockapoo and sometimes my husband......lol. I say sometimes because he's a Navy man and not home very much. He's currently deployed doing an IA tour and won't be home for several months :-(

I'm just happy to be here and see a lot of familiar faces :-)
